8th Annual Celebrate Centennial Under the Stars-Centennial Center Park


Live music, laser lights and family entertainment- the 8th Annual Celebrate Centennial Under the Stars event has a new twist this year. This signature community event is scheduled for Saturday, August 3 at Centennial Center Park, located at 13050 E. Peakview Ave (adjacent to the Centennial Civic Center). Entertainment begins at 6:00 p.m.

There will be a variety of entertainment for the entire family including: a children’s planting station presented by Tagawa Gardens, interactive outdoor games and contests, face painting, balloon sculptors, 
bounce house, South Suburban Kid’s Fitness Van, Food, beer and wine will be for sale throughout the event. The beer and wine pavilion is hosted by the Centennial Rotary, Live music provided by Rachel and The Kings and THE LONG RUN – Experience The Eagles tribute band. Families are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets to reserve a spot in the amphitheatre.

“We look forward to introducing a new and exciting laser light show to the City’s signature Celebrate Centennial Under the Stars event in our very own Centennial Center Park!” says Mayor Cathy Noon. “This summer celebration brings families together at what is becoming the ‘heart’ of our City and builds a true sense of community.”

Please bring new and gently used baby blankets to help support the Arapahoe County Early Childhood Council's blanket drive. Items will be donated to needy child care centers in the area. All who donate will be entered into a drawing for a toy prize package.

Learn the skills to ‘wow’ employers in advance of July 11 youth hiring event

Centennial, Colo. – The Arapahoe/Douglas Works! Workforce Center will host a multi-employer job fair in July for youth ages 14-21, along with pre-fair workshops to help young job-seekers learn how to approach employers in a competitive and busy job fair environment.

The Youth Job Fair will take place 4 to 6 p.m., July 11 at Arapahoe County CentrePoint Plaza, 14980 E. Alameda Dr., Aurora. Employers will be on hand to speak about job opportunities in the customer service, recreation, transportation, food service, call center, hospitality and retail industries.

Arapahoe County Fair hosts 3rd Annual Battle of the Homebrews

Nationally-sanctioned contest invites entries of beer, mead, cider and ale

Aurora, Colo. –  Calling all amateur homebrewers! Enter your best brews in the 3rd Annual Arapahoe County Fair Battle of the Homebrews, Saturday, July 20.

Sanctioned by the American Homebrewers Association and the Beer Judge Certification Program, the Battle of the Homebrews is open to anyone age 21 years or older who makes beer, ale, mead or cider as a hobby. Judges qualified through the BJCP will conduct the judging and present best-of-show awards.The competition welcomes more than 80 varieties of beer and ale, 9 styles of mead and 9 styles of cider.

Stephanie Piko sworn in as Centennial Mayor Pro Tem

Centennial Council Member Stephanie Piko was sworn in this evening as Mayor Pro Tem. This position is elected annually and serves mayoral functions during any temporary absences of the mayor. Council Member Piko was elected unanimously by her fellow Council Members.

“Stephanie’s appointment as Mayor Pro Tem demonstrates her professionalism and dedication to serving the community,” said Mayor Cathy Noon. “It will be a privilege to work with Stephanie this year as she furthers her leadership role on City Council.”

Centennial receives Best Asphalt Pavement Award

Centennial receives “Best in Colorado” Asphalt Pavement Awards

The City of Centennial received two awards at the 19th Annual “Best in Colorado” Asphalt Pavement Awards Dinner and Program on February 27. Centennial was recognized with the City Street Resurfacing Award for the East Dry Creek Overlay Project and the Preventative Maintenance/Surface Seal Award for the South Mineral Drive, 2012 Surface Treatment Program.

The Colorado Asphalt Pavement Association (CAPA) presents the “Best in Colorado” Quality Asphalt paving Awards in acknowledgement of the quality efforts of asphalt producers, contractors and agencies/owners in the state of Colorado. This annual event is a CAPA calendar highlight which occurs in conjunction with the Rocky Mountain Asphalt Conference & Equipment Show.

“The City of Centennial is pleased to accept recognition for the Dry Creek Overlay Project and the 2012 Surface Treatment Program, says City Manager John Danielson. “The City takes pride in maintaining its street pavement in good condition, to build durable pavement for the traveling public.”

The Colorado Asphalt Pavement Association, a not-for-profit association representing approximately 200 member organizations, is composed of both producers and users, including governmental agencies, working together to design, construct and maintain high quality asphalt pavements.

Founded in 1983, CAPA is the voice of the asphalt industry of Colorado and interfaces continually with the Colorado Department of Transportation, the Federal Highway Administration, local agencies and others throughout Colorado.
