The city’s parks department is adding several new amenities to the Aurora Reservoir this summer — everything from cruiser bikes and paddleboards to just plain old new sand.

Officials are hoping the new offerings will raise the profile of the recreational outlet, located near E-470 and Quincy Avenue in southeast Aurora. The sprawling reservoir, which boasts more than 800 acres of water surface and also serves as a drinking water storage facility, is one of the city’s largest park and open space sites.
